Ohio Linuxfest

Well, Donna and I went to Columbus for the "Ohio Linuxfest" this weekend. We had to drive up Saturday morning since Donna had to work. I will never try anything like that again. We were so tired when we arrived that it was just impossible to enjoy the show.

We saw Chris DiBona of "Google" give his presentation. Then we went around to the booths, picked up some "swag" and met a few people.

I particilarly wanted to meet my buddies from "The Linux Link Tech Show" That was very cool. Below is a picture of me and Pat. We also got to meet Bob Whitinger and Don Parris of "LXer.com".

We got so tired we decided to go back to the hotel, take a nap and return later for the "after conference" party at the Holiday Inn, which BTW, we couldn't get a room at becaues it was full. We were refered to the "Midwest Hotel" by the Linuxfest people. NEVER stay there! The room was filthy and old. We took a nap in our clothes and drove back last night. Man, were we tired.

To sum it up, the trip was pretty much a disaster. Lessons learned? Make damn sure you know in advance your hotel is not a "#^*@ - hole". And give yourself enough enough time to get there so you can be well rested. I think this is our last Linuxfest until someone has one a little closer to Tennessee.

Mark,
I'm sorry that you had such a bad experience at the Midwest. Unfortunately, our Hotel of Choice (the Drury Inn, which is attached to the Convention Center) was completely booked this year as was every other hotel in the area due to the United Pentacostal Churche's annual convention, being held that weekend. They booked nearly 5,000 rooms in Hotels around the area nearly 2 years ago so we were left high and dry.

Next year, we will be returning to the Drury Inn, which is 3 years old, has fantastic staff, clean rooms and provides an excellent, free (eggs, suasage, bacon etc..) breakfast as part of the room rate.

We hope that this experience doesn't reflect badly on our show as the issue was really beyond our control this year, and we would be honored if you would consider coming back next year again. I'll personally buy you a beer and trade stories with You, Pat and Linc!

Sincerely,
Gregory J. Boehnlein
